Robert L. Bianco is a vice president of Con-way Inc. and president of Menlo Worldwide Logistics, LLC, a $1.3 billion global provider of logistics, transportation management and supply chain services. Menlo Worldwide Logistics, LLC is a subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW), a $4.7 billion freight transportation and logistics services company headquartered in San Mateo, Calif. Named FORTUNE magazine’s “Most Admired Company” in transportation and logistics for 2007, Con-way delivers industry-leading services through its primary operating companies of Con-way Freight, CFI and Con-way Truckload, and Menlo Worldwide Logistics. These operating units provide high-performance, day-definite less-than-truckload (LTL), full truckload and intermodal freight transportation; as well as logistics, warehousing and supply chain management services; and trailer manufacturing. Con-way Inc. and its subsidiaries operate from more than 500 locations across North America and in 17 countries across five continents.
Mr. Bianco was named to his current position in 2005 and is responsible for Menlo Worldwide Logistics’ United States and international logistics activities, as well as those of Vector SCM, a joint venture with General Motors Purchasing Worldwide optimization management for the GM supply chain. From 2002 to 2005, Mr. Bianco served as president and chief executive officer of Menlo Worldwide Logistics.
An executive with nearly 20 years of experience in the logistics industry, Mr. Bianco joined the CNF organization in 1989 as a management trainee. In 1990, he was promoted to manager of operations research, responsible for freight network optimization modeling. In 1992, he was named logistics manager for Menlo Logistics (which was renamed Menlo Worldwide Logistics in 2001), and was responsible for implementing and managing supply chain solutions for customers in the hi-tech industry. He subsequently advanced through a series of increasingly responsible positions where he managed distribution services, customer relationships, operations and business growth for the company. He was named vice president of operations for Menlo Logistics in 1997, and promoted to president and chief executive officer in 2002.
Mr. Bianco began his career as a logistics officer in the U.S. Army. Stationed in Europe, he was responsible for the transportation of supplies to combat units in Europe.
Mr. Bianco is a member of the Council of Logistics Management. He is a native of San Francisco, Calif., and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and a master’s degree from the University of San Francisco. Mr. Bianco is based at Menlo Worldwide Logistics’ headquarters in San Mateo, Calif.
